Great Start to Busselton’s Festival

A Night to Remember: The Busselton NYE Festival Kicks Off in Style

What a way to welcome the new year. The first night of the Festival of Busselton, held on New Year’s Eve, delivered everything we hoped for and more, setting the tone for an unforgettable festival and a brilliant start to the year ahead.

As the sun dipped over the foreshore, the atmosphere came alive. Families rolled out picnic rugs, friends gathered with food and drinks in hand, and the sound of live music drifted across the crowd. It was relaxed, inclusive, and full of that unmistakable Busselton spirit — the kind that turns an event into a shared experience.

Live performances from Lines of Conviction and Disco Sour had the crowd dancing well into the evening, creating an energy that felt joyful rather than rushed. Kids made the most of the music and danced and played while others settled in to enjoy the music and summer night.

One of the standout moments of the evening came when members of the Festival of Busselton committee threw beach balls into the crowd, sparking laughter and movement across the foreshore.

Food trucks and local vendors kept everyone well fed, offering something for every taste, and it was wonderful to see people lingering — chatting, dancing, and enjoying the moment together under the stars.

The Festival of Busselton is a not-for-profit event, run entirely by a dedicated volunteer committee. With rising costs across all aspects of event delivery, there was unfortunately not enough money in the pot to include New Year’s Eve fireworks this year. NYE fireworks are often double the cost of fireworks at other times of the year, requiring significant additional funding and resources. As a volunteer-run festival, difficult decisions have to be made to ensure the event remains free, safe, and accessible for the whole community.

While there were no fireworks, the night proved that celebration isn’t defined by what’s in the sky, but by the people around you. Music, connection, and community were more than enough — and in many ways, made the evening even more meaningful.

The opening night of the Festival of Busselton was a beautiful farewell to the festive season and a heartfelt welcome to the new year. Thank you to everyone who attended, volunteered, sponsored, and supported the festival — you are the reason nights like this are possible.

If this first night was anything to go by, the rest of the Festival of Busselton is set to be something truly special.

We extend our sincere thanks to our incredible volunteer team and valued sponsors — Lotterywest, Busselton Water, Rio Tinto, Hilton Garden Inn Busselton, Doral, the City of Busselton, and Vasse Vets — whose continued support helps make the Festival of Busselton a standout celebration for our community.
